Why should you have TCM treatments?

In general, human health condition can be classified into 4 stages: health stage 1, sub-health stage 2, which is pre-disease state, disease stage 3, recovery (post-treatment) stage 4. While modern medicine treats diseases (stage 3), traditional Chinese Medicine deals with health problems at all 4 stages. If you go to visit a medical doctor, he will order all the tests, and concludes that you are completely normal if the test results come normal even though you feel ill. If you visit a doctor of traditional Chinese Medicine, he will tell you possible health problem, and recommend treatments. I believe this is very common scenario these days for many patients. Is it anything wrong with western medicine? Is it anything magic with traditional Chinese Medicine? No. Your Western doctor is right, since you are MEDICALLY normal; your traditional Chinese medical doctor is correct as well, since you are not healthy.

Traditional Chinese Medicine detects any functional disorders which may proceed to any measurable biochemical or pathological changes. This early detection and intervention definitely has an impact on the disease-forming process. We call it as Prevention. Likewise, we look at the post-treatment stage. Whereas Western Medicine does nothing to facilitate the recovery process, traditional Chinese medicine will provide you with herbs, acupuncture and diets in order to further improve your health. In the case of chronic diseases, TCM is again a perfect choice.

Difference of modern medicine and traditional Chinese medicine

While modern medicine, called evidence-based medicine (EBM), may heroically rescue you, traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) focus on restoring body and mind to optimal and harmony state. How does traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) benefit you? Why is modern medicine is inadequate for us to maintain optimal health and wellbeing physically and mentally? Yi Ding Yuan, the founder of the A1 Clinique Chinoise, provides you with his insight into advantages of TCM.

Both EBM and TCM have common philosophy in diagnosis: finding traits of a health problem or a disease. However, they differ in many ways and levels. EBM recognizes the existence of a health problem based on possible biochemical and mechanical changes and existence of virus or bacteria. It understands the problem at cellular and molecular levels. If there is no evidence of those changes, there is no disease. This approach is more precise but is more static view of knowing a problem, since it ignores the developmental process of a health problem in which people are disease-free but feel sick.

Traditional Chinese medicine acts on balance concept: a health problem is the result of inter-system imbalance. It is able to detect very mild imbalance and correct it at earlier stage. This approach is especially important for us to prevent some minor problems from becoming serious illness.

Modern medicine is mainstream medicine and helps manage your health crisis well. Many research and studies lead to the cure of many human diseases. However, it is still inadequate to deal with chronic illness. The availability of treatment for many known diseases is limited. One of huge problems is severe side effects of chemical medications. In general, short-term use of chemical medications have much less and reversible side effects, but the long-term use of them cause many serious health issues. Moreover, medications are seldom able to reverse the pathological process of many disease.

TCM has gained great popularity over past 4 decades due to its efficacy, mild side effects and holistic approach. Unlike EBM, TCM treats a patient as whole person by integrating emotion, environmental changes and lifestyle into treatment plan. This holistic approach helps the practitioner address the root of a health problem rather than clinical symptoms only. TCM develops its own diagnostic techniques to detect early signs of a health issue, and intervenes in early stage of a health problem.
